Safe Sleep Practices
Snug Bug Sleep Solutions promotes Safe Sleep Practices to make sure your little one’s sleep environment free from danger.
Ensure your little one’s sleep environment is AS safe AS POSSIBLE BY:
Placing your baby on their back to sleep for all sleep - back to sleep for all sleep.
Placing your baby’s feet at the bottom of the cot so the only way to wriggle is up.
Keep your baby’s face and head uncovered.
Keep your baby smoke free before and after birth.
Keep your baby’s room temperature optimal for safe sleep between 18 to 22 degrees.
Providing a safe sleeping environment and ensure cot/bassinet, mattress and bedding comply with relevant current standards.
Ensuring no soft or bulky surfaces including pillows, doonas, cot bumpers, toys, etc.
Room sharing for the first 12 months i.e. cot in parents’ room.
The American Academy of Paediatrics recommends co-sleeping (i.e. sharing the same sleep space/room, not the same sleep surface) for a period of 12 months. This has recently been raised from 6 months as there is evidence of protective benefits from room sharing and reduced risk of SUDI.
